Microstock is not enough, but (luckily) it helps!

posted on 23rd of october, 2012

Today I received another payment from dreamstime.
I congratulate with the site for the great speed of payments (in less than 24 hours I had the required payment, really good).
It is not a large amount, however, in a work environment in which I do not devote myself only to microstock, I am still satisfied to receive this money every now and then.

In fact, no one could live by only microstock (or, rather, those who can live only with microstock are few and are those who have many images or who started earlier than others), but, personally, if I join these gains with I am doing work for direct customers, advertising revenue of my three blogs and the fledgling low cost design section on my site, I get good amounts which lead me to go on and create images for microstock and invest time in sponsoring the images through social networks.

In short, I thank God that there is also the microstock. If there was not even this possibility for us illustrators would be really difficult to carry on with everyday life!

Thank you very much

Just to compare, if you make just $125 (after taxes) a month, that equals an investment in obligations of about $35000, tying up your money for about 10 years.

And if we forget the money for a moment, it's just a lot of fun.

I agree with you, sure I will not live with microstock... I just hope to buy a new lens in the next future!

This is true, but mine was not a criticism;)

I think the reality is that we shouldn't expect our part time job to perform like a full time career :) I find that my stock portfolio is now returning more per month than a full time minimum wage job - pretty good for a few hours a week... I would certainly expect it to do quite a bit better if I devoted 160 hours a month to it!
