Instagram says it now has the right to sell your photos

In its first big policy shift since Facebook bought the photo-sharing site, Instagram claims the right to sell users' photos without payment or notification. Oh, and there's no way to opt out.

	Posted by Bookedbygrace2 on January 03, 2013 inspiration takes only an instant. blogging can take a lifetime. yes, i care about artists rights and corporate conglomerates doing poopy stuff because they can. and there were a couple valid points here. but outside of the initial piece of information and the DT info on key differences in DT policy vs. [current villain of the moment being played by] instagram, I fail to see much of a difference between the coffee-clutch style self-righteous kveching between many blogs and posts. I, too, get sick of trying to have a meaningful online conversation with a friend without being bombarded by an invitation to have my online activity traced and my contact info sold in the name of a fb game. And apparently most the people I graduated high school with still live in the same town and subsist on a diet of football and bad beer. But maybe instead of constantly searching for something to complain about, we could opt-IN to actual lives. Maybe if enough humans do this, blogs would include more and more...(More)
	Posted by Seawatch1 on December 19, 2012 Instagram says they are going to make adjustments to their policy. How wonderful! The fact that they tried to get away with it in the first place doesn't seem to bother them. And it wasn't a slip of the pen. It's in their EULA twice. They must think they are politicians. Do anything or say anything you want and then say you're sorry and it will all go away. Then they try and make changes that are just a little bit better and we're supposed to rejoice because they've made a change. Point is that even children learn they shouldn't do certain things in the first place.

I think not participating in instagram would be one way to opt out :-) What happens when the models and their parents start hiring lawyers because they have not released their images for this use? That is the crazy part - they seem to be opting out from the legal responsibility of selling images for commercial use without model releases. So YOU are responsible. And really, given the terms you are granting them this is exactly what we do here on Dreamstime - except for three key differences: 1. We can restrict the use to editorial if we don't have a model release or there are copyright issues. 2. They aren't reviewing the images posted for copyright and model release problems before selling them. 3. They don't pay you. On Dreamstime or any other agency we are currently held to a high standard, but if one fabricates a model release and uploads an image it is not Dreamstime that is ultimately responsible - it is the contributor....(More)

Any co. that gets so huge should be watched very closely. that would include, google as well others. everyone needs to vote with there feet here by deleting there acct at instagram AND facebook. thats the only way to fight these co.'s. they surly will withdraw the rights grabbing wording but we should NOT go back to them. stand up and tell them WE ARE NOT THE SHEEP YOU THINK WE ARE! we are actually what has made you so successfull, without us yo are nothing...look at my space for example.
