Winning the Dreamstime assignment

posted on 18th of december, 2012

I have been lucky over the last couple of years with my photography achievements but I genuinely think that winning a Dreamstime assignment is my proudest moment.

Almost a reward for climbing 1400 feet at 4.30/5am summit in pitch black and fog, the fact it was so dark meant the fog was not an issue. I was hoping to get above the fog for a sunrise shot from a higher altitude. Once on the summit on a very cold wet Oct 23rd 2012 morning, still 1.5 hours to sunrise I realized I was not above the fog bank but still stuck in it. I sat there in the cold, dark, wet fog for nearly 2 hours until the sun provided enough light for me to make the decent. On the way down it was wet and horrid, a scene came together and I took a few test shots with my mobile before taking a couple of shots with my DSLR. Still didn't think much of it as I was so upset of my "wasted" trek.

Well the rest is history now but I can't really recommend enough pushing yourself into taking part in assignments. I too have had my fair share of rejections and failures entering previous assignments, even vowed not to participate again, glad I did not stick to my guns on that point. As they say, if I can win it then so can you. Today Dreamstime have launched their new Apocalyptic assignment, good luck to all and get your creativity hats on :)

Thanks everyone :)

@ Suyerry, it was well scary, not sure I'll do it again in a hurry, I did not even mention the red eyes looking at me whilst on the way up, proper freaky stuff.
