After reading the other member's 3 Years with DT, I just like to make a joke and tell you my 3 months with DT.
First month had 1 sale, made $2.6, 80 images online;
Second month had 0 sale, 126 images online. Almost made me hopeless;
Third month had 20 sales, made $33.88, 165 images online. Stay alive again!
Plus 20 cents each image getting from DT as exclusive member. I've earned $117.5.
Now is the beginning of the 4th month. I already had 3 sales. I guess it won't give me heart attack again like the second month.
Conclusion: On the third month, you will be on the right track. You have to work on it almost every day though. No pain no gain! Now I have 388 images online. I guess that is not bad because I started to take pictures when I started to sell images here.... [ Read more... ]

If your photographic technique improves....... the values lies there not in Dollar sales for maybe the first two years. If you are an illustrator that's a quite different story........... you can make money from day 1. David

A member asked me why I became exclusive since I had a very small portfolio. I told her that I made a blind jump. I was selling pictures on XX Photo and XX Stock when I began selling images three months ago. I was thinking just like a lot of people that the more websites you were on, the more chances you had to sell your images. But the other websites took forever to approve my images. So slow that I finally gave them up. XX Photo only allowed me to upload about 14 images a week. Man! I could only upload two images a day. That would take my whole life to build a big portfolio there. Plus, I was not selling more there. And I did not get that many views on my images either. XX Stock was even worse. I guessed my images were not that good! Or they have too many good ones. SX Stock even... [ Read more... ]

I just hit 50 this week. DT is very easy to work with. I am considering being exclusive. If another agency charges less for your image, would I be discounting my own work? Just a thought.

No complaints here about being exclusive.

I encouraged a friend to joint DT and sell images. She bought a camera. I taught her some photography skills. She asked me what type of images sell better. I did not answer her right away. I am not even sure about it! Then I told her a few days later that images with people sold better. It seems to me, especially beautiful women doing business or buying... Kids playing... sell better. Then when I was just checking online to see what images sell better again (I bet every one do this research sometimes, especially when your sales are slow.), I found every subject was popular.
What types of images sell better? What do you have in mind? What do you do when your sales are bad? Do you always think of what can sell when you go out to take pictures? Are you confused?... [ Read more... ]

Thank you! There are no laws here to forbid taking pictures in the stores. It is all up to the store policy. Most places don't care. Bigger stores are normally more comfortable with that, especially when the worker are busy, they don't have time to bother you. I sometimes ask the employees first before taking when I go into a small store. Sometimes, not often, I was told not to do it, after I did some anyway. They normally told me politely. I just needed to stop. So I normally take pictures without getting too much attention! You know, at a corner place and do it fast. Go to malls, they don't care! Go to the stores that have a lot of tourists. Don't forget, you should have tourist eyes all the time, that way you will discover new things. I don't have a tripod. It is impossible to use tripod. They would kick you out! Use a high ISO, 800 or more. Sometimes 400 works. The bigger ISO the more noise though.

nice portfolio indeed, I just want to ask you about images taken in supermarket or of companies labels. Is that allowed in your country to take photos inside a shop? In our city is forbidden. So how do you do? Did you also used a tripod? :D regards

As we talked about what subjects sell better, I found Christmas is the big one. If you don't have models and a studio, just go out! Christmas decorations are everywhere! You don't even have to set up anything. No matter it is raining or snowing, you can still do it. It is the best indoor shooting experience. I had about 20 Christmas related images freshly online last month and made 6 sales. That is quite good for images online for less than 3 weeks right? Here they are! Tell me which ones you like better! Show us your best ones too, please! Thank you!

When you are first starting out I'd suggest that you go at a slower rate until you start meeting the quality standards and learn what types of stock images are wanted. After that, if you have a stockpile of desirable images then why not upload to the limit. Anyone uploading at this rate doesn't have time to whine.

Thank you for your kind words!
