The Road to 3,000 Sales

posted on 6th of may, 2013

When I first started on this road to Stock Photography I thought it would be an easy transition from Wedding Photography to Stock Photography, but it wasn't as easy as I anticipated. What makes a great Wedding Photograph doesn't necessarily make great Stock Photography.

While I started this as a hobby I also wanted to make it a successful adventure. So I wanted to find a balance between what I love to photograph and what sells good as Stock. And what I found is that I could photograph things I love and that it could be good Stock photography. I've learned to see the world through different eyes. There are so many things you can photograph that will make good stock photography. I've learned never to pass up the opportunity to photograph something even if at the moment it just doesn't seem to be a photograph that would sell.

I'm very happy with where I'm heading. I will continue to learn from every rejection and every sale. I don't compare myself to anyone and I don't compete with anyone. I go at my own pace.

Congrats! There is little need to compare your numbers to others as you never know how the time you spend compares, or any number of other factors. Focus on your own goals and you will reach them :)

Lenutaidi, thanks for the complement. I didn't convey the correct thought when I said: "a wedding photograph does not necessarily make a good stock photograph" What I meant was just because I took beautiful wedding photographs didn't mean that all the photos of people would translate into great stock images. There are many wedding photographs that are beautiful and great sellers. But what a Bride and Groom love as wedding pictures and what a buyer want can differ.

I'm not sure I have made myself any clearer. Sometimes I ramble on and it becomes less clearer than if I had said nothing! :/

Thanks to all for the well wishes
