10.000 $ … stock .. Now what?

posted on 9th of may, 2013

After 2 years, 7 months and 9 days I reached the 10.000$. Now What?... I started submitting in a lucky day of September 13th and I got my first sale after 15 days….. 0.99 cents. …. For the rest of 9999.01 I did the following:

Upload every photo from my hard drive…. And got lots of rejections… sounds familiar? Rookie mistake.

Step two: research picture sales and take notes. After that: learn how to cook and shot photos. The biggest challenge here was not how to take photos of fresh and amazing culinary delight that I just prepared but to stop myself from eating everything before the photo session :-).

Travel, a lot and use my first earnings from Dreamstime. Sacrifices we make in the name of photography…

Upload photos with sunset and sunrise, my own CT scan…my wife, me again, my nephew, nephew’s girlfriend, uncle, friends, all the tools I could find in my house … food again and let’s not forget my cat, who got food only when his photos sold … that’s way now he’s overweight:-).

Between all this I participated at two assignments, and with the help of Dreamstime’s community, I won first and third place…. Thank you Dreamstime!!!

Through this all I learned the following:
If you are not committed to this full-time, get yourself engaged to be married to Dreamstime and stay faithful in their exclusivity.

If you get a photo rejected it is not the end of the word. Wait a day or two and take a look at your photo, if it still looks like a masterpiece, you can send a nice and warm message to the editor with your opinion about the photo- if you have good arguments they will reconsider it. (These good guys work really hard)

Stop checking the Dreamstime website every second, I lost sooooo much time doing that. This will not help your sales.

If you need help ask Dreamstime’s family

Upload, research, upload, research…

Pay attention to Keywording. It is as important as your photos.

If you get bored write a blog when you hit 10,000$! If you don’t hit 10,000$ write a blog anyway.

My next blog will be at 20,000$. Farewell (hopefully not in another 2 years!)

Thanks Dreamstime!

Wow! 10 000$ in less than 3 years; I have to admit I did not think it was possible. I always told myself to think long term (5-6 years) for incomes from a stock site. Your case shows me I was wrong. Keep up the good work!

hmmm....so for exclusive guys, there is an average of $2.5-$3 per sale. This average looks valid for all the "big guys" I have seen around. :)

You are a nice inspiration. I think I'll stick with exclusivity and try to get a big port. Thanks for the blog post!
