Nothing to take photos of!

posted on 24th of june, 2013

I'm bored!
there's nothing to take pictures of!
gosh I live in a flat, yucky part of the world.. now if I lived (___fill in the blank) then I would have the best photos and the most sales here!
If only I could win the lottery and travel all over the word, the best camera you can buy strapped around my neck...

Have to admit.. doesn't some of those phrases run blithely across our minds at least a few times a day? well summer is here and I have to admit, its hot, I'm broke, and I'm working two jobs plus stock, so darn it, I'M TIRED!

BUT..boys and girls, I'm here to tell you there is still plenty to take pictures of right in our own back yard.

We live on Lake Michigan

in a small resort town.
Chicago is just a boat ride across the great lake, or we can hop a train, either Amtrack or south shore.
Driving is an option, if we can afford gas this week (its such a thrill to beat the odds and save 2 cents a gallon lol

or we can just get out our running shoes
and walk around town.

Festivals are everywhere,

local and usually free.
We are lucky to have a beach, and a state passport that gets us in at little cost

.

I gave birth to three models and they proceeded to bless me with 5 and a half more models (half being new baby Izeayah due sometime in the next two weeks) grand-kids are awesome and they work for cookies!

local farm markets are colorful cornucopias of stock images, as are local nursery's, shopping centers, markets

, county fairs, and parks
.

Summer is the BEST time to people watch and shoot editorial!

Not everything has to be isolated on a white back ground. In fact, Ive seen a rise in editorial sales on my page

zoos are inexpensive, a local aquarium store let me snap away to my hearts content last week, and we had a awesome old car show down town on Friday night, then we hit the local ice cream parlor. Don't forget area fountains where the kids can run thru and get wet for free, and the local gardens and parks and
playgrounds that are literally everywhere these days! even check out demonstrations and educational events around town, like at this
fire station.

So if you are bored and tired and broke, check out some of these great places to take wonderful stock photos for little or no cost, and enjoy the wonderful things right outside in your own back yard.
Oh.. and don't forget, your OWN backyard!

Man, I thought I'm the only one thinking that way. :) I'm so glad I'm not. The same words came across my mind a few times... win at the lottery (even if I don't try :D ), travel around the world, buy the best camera and lenses... But the truth is, indeed, we got everything we need - a dslr, creativity and the world out there, which is made of so many good scenes. The only thing missing - guess what - momentum! Good article. Thx.

I loved that female firefighter and little kid photo! Reminded a Spanish horror movie I recently watched.

one thing that is really funny is my best seller in june, where it is hot as can be and so humid you can swim in the air... is... our driveway being plowed just a few months ago when we had snow on the ground! surprises me every time it sells in these hot humid days!

Wonderful reminder to give our heads a shake when we forget to look around us - and to consider editorial images.
