Yes I can DT

posted on 18th of july, 2013

Yes I can! I did reached $100 revenus. And yes I can still improve my portfolio.

Here is my own personnal little story:

I joined Dreamstime on May 4, 2010. I was not really active at the beginning because I was learning photo and testing others microstock sites.

2010 : 4 photos accepted, 12 rejected ; 0 sales
2011 : 17 photos accepted, 75 rejected ; 3 sales (not my best shots btw!)

After this lazy time I decided to focus on DT only and work harder to improve and increase my portfolio.

2012 : 101 photos accepted, 117 rejected ; 10 sales

I finally became excluse and then : sales and earning increased significantly. And so did my motivation!

2013 : 150 photos accepted, 143 rejected ; 26 sales

My most downloaded photo is my own bathroom. It did not have to look very far away :-)

It is also the picture that brings me the more money.

Conclusion:
I still have a lot to do to improve and increase my portfolio but now thinsg are easier: acceptance rate is higher and sales frequency is increasing.

At the end of the day, I must admit that I do not always understand what sells and what do not .

For example, I never sold those shots?!

Thanks all.

@Fredbro: yes, i am very happy of been exclusive.

@Bradcalkins: than you for your point of view. I think that I have improved a lot my keywording with the time. As English si not my native langage, sometimes it is harder. For example, I do not know the keywords you gavé me about the vegetables.

I just applied to be exclusive. According to what I've read (and what you say), it seems to be a good move to be exclusive with DT. Congratulations for your 100$ and I wish more sales!

On the 'cucurbits' shot - I would suggest you go with a more common word. If I was looking for that shot I would do a search on one word: 'gourds' or maybe 'squashes'. You don't even have that as a keyword (need to include plurals on DT as well). Lots of nice shots, I think your keywording needs some attention to get more common words in the titles and descriptions.

Your bathroom shot is a good example of what works: 'modern bathroom'. Simple, to the point, descriptive, and very likely to be searched by a buyer...

Good luck!

thanks all.

0 sales for the cucrubits event if it is one of the picture that take me a long time to do. It is unfair, lol

congratulations - my favorite pic is the 'collection of cucurbit' - I also don't really know yet what sells and what not, so I will go on trying to find out ;)

you are building a good portfolio, and when I shoot, I try to keep reminding myself what will this be used for? if I am shooting say... a bag of candy.. who would want that photo? if two kids are fighting over a bag of candy.. then it becomes stock: sibling rivalry , or childhood fighting.. or how to discipline children...
btw... I like your bathroom!
