Lens cap!

posted on 8th of august, 2013

Hi! Today I want to bring to the knowledge about an object chopped but very important: LENS CAP! Yeah you read it right!

Three weeks ago I lost my lens cap, at the end of vacation trips.
I did not give much importance to this thing:lens cap.I covered the lens with a silk handkerchief and an elastic:
I said that before I go to specialty stores to buy me another lens cap, I will go further with silk handkerchief and elastic.Big mistake!!
So the last two weeks a lot of pictures I uploaded were rejected!!
Reason?"There are visible dust, stains, and/or scratches from the scanning process, or abnormal spots on your image generated by dust on the camera sensor and/or stains/dust on the camera lens. Please fix the problem and resubmit." The last two weeks appeared to me very often the reason for rejecting this message!
I never realized that silk handkerchief elastic caught on lens will ultimately cause to a pile of rejected images! Not stay without lens cap!!
So, tomorrow morning I will run to the store and I'll buy LENS CAP and of course I'll watch every time to wipe my LENS with carefully! So take care and and when you lose lens cap, shall immediately go and buy another...:)
Best regards,Lenuta:)

Yes Haotian, you're right and I do this, but still I lost in the end, so I bought a cap wired this time to not lose it:)[imgr]29823099[/imgr]

I have a great talent for misplacing things. So I force myself to ALWAYS slip the cap into a dedicated compartment before shooting.

Thanks for sharing, good to know, I sometimes leave the camera without the cap for some time.

Years ago back in the days of film I lost my lens cap in the haunted house at Disneyworld. I went to the lost and found without much hope and they had boxes of them. Told me to just grab one that fit and I was on my way :)

I always put my lens cap in my right front pocket when I'm shooting so I know where it is when I'm done, but they can get knocked off your lens so easily. A soft silk hankerchief will not protect your lens - I hope you have a filter on it, since you may need to replace that if it has become scratched. Scratch the lens itself and it'll be a nightmare having to use PS to fix every photo you take from now on!

I have mainly Canon material but I hate their lens caps. I find the Tamron pinch lens cap to be so much more easy to use. And you're right, it's a very important piece of equipment!

I hope in the future you don't have a problem!Yes...wasting time, but it's safer to cover!Cheeers!:)

I hate lens caps, stopped using them long time ago.
got sick of wasting time taking them on/off constantly.
just keep the lens hood on and that protects the glass from getting scratched. Clean with a microfibre cloth as required.
never had a problem yet.

Wrong,Nikon4004!It does matter! And I used silk handkerchief before every shoot, but in vain!Collect dust like a magnet! So trust me,lens cap is safest way!!

No matter what the lens is covered with, I use a microfibler cloth to clean before every shoot. 1 spec nca cost you an approved image
