State Quarters

posted on 6th of september, 2013

After lots of work my image or illustration of the 50 state quarters was accepted into my portfolio. To create this image and make it appear more like an illustration,i painted every coin with silver spray paint you can buy at any hardware store. After that process was complete it came time to photograph each and every coin in my light tent with my lighting set up so the reflections could be minimized. The use of a Cokin circular polarizer also helped to minimize glare.
The next project was to take each coin into Photoshop and with the use of levels and curves adjustment layers i was able to give each coin a silvery grunge appearance.Creating an action made it easier to give all the coins somewhat the same appearance with a few tweaks here and there.
Finally I created the blue background with a silver stroke and of course the layout. The grid feature was used for the layout along with another action to size all the coins the same.
Even with all that was involved it was a lot of fun to create this image and i hope it does well as far as sales.
I suppose that with a little imagination and lots of work, creating simple images such as this one can be accomplished by anyone.

IT WAS FUN !!!

I'm assuming you didn't realize that one of those coins was worth about $8,000 before you painted it...?

j/k couldn't resist. Nice work!

It's amazing sometimes, the lengths we go to, to make the image we have in mind, lol! Great work :)
