West Virginia's Turbines

posted on 10th of september, 2013

During a one week getaway to the mountains of West Virginia in the upper northeastern part of the state there was one thing that really blew my mind even over the wildlife and all the beautiful scenery. It was the wind turbines that are constructed on top of these tall mountains.

The weather seemed like the worst part of the visit but it was easy to get used to especially when you got close to these monsterous structures that generate power for parts of these mountains. There was no wind at the time so they stood idle but I hear from the locals that they sound really cool when in motion.
On my last evening on the mountain the weather cleared and the scenery completely changed. All in all,i can't wait to go back and hopefully during the winter when there's snow all over the place and the skies are nice and blue.
I can only imagine what the driving conditions must be like in the winter but photographing these turbines again would make it all worthwhile. Now I know why the call West Virginia "Wild and Wonderful"

West Virginia truly is cool for just wandering and finding interesting random things, I was just up there a few weeks ago on a photo adventure... Your wind turbine photos are amazing with the clue sky and the puffy clouds.. LOVE!

Are real clouds? Looks so funny

The clouds do look strange! When I first saw the picture, I thought you silhouetted the turbines and added the clouds after the fact. Better go back, as you mention, on a different day.

Wind Turbines are much more pretty than scraped off mountain tops!
