I just realised, that:
Today (or well tomorrow) it is one year since I joined Dreamstime, and a year ago I went and did my first shoot whilst trying to make something that just might could sell in mind.
It came to me today, and truth be told, I was a bit surprised. Because a lot has happened these past 12 month.
The same time as joining up with Dreamstime
I teamed up with a nice and energetic young model, with whom I had had a single TFP shot before, and we had a good synergy.
I went to her town, and we just went for it.
We shot away.
Pictures with; drinking coffee with lots of distracting objects, blue shirt in a christmas picture, funny pictures with phone on disturbing backgrounds. Nothing stopped us. And truth be told, we had a lot of fun!
Later after no sales were really coming, it was time to try to make a strategy, to get serious!. So we went to a studio, and made a bunch of pictures. Trying to master a concept....! (or well many!)
Did we have fun. Yes we did ! Did we master any concepts, well not really.... But we did get some experience! And I was never shy to pay her train tickets :))!
Since this didn´t give a whole bunch of sales, we went to different local businesses, and we were always most welcome.
The cool model held flowers, car keys, textiles, closing boxes, opening boxes, talked on smartphones, talked with piglets and smiling for hours without end. And always smiling with a smile.
So yes, every time we had a lot of fun.
Also TFP shoot, in Denmark and Hungaria, were often turned also to contain at least a few stock pictures on the side.
Models doing their first or second shot, actually found it to be fun to try something that would be used by someone else.
A friend, through many years, started a garage fixing cars, and I was quick to help him get some pictures for his website, and he was brave to sign a model release :)
We both were happy !, and we are still friends :)
This was also around this time LR was being more or less replaced with PS, hoping to be able to give better finish to the pictures. Which probably was not a bad idea :)
So what did it end up with?
It ended with 42 sales. The best ones selling actually with a cool bodybuilder in my local gym, and pictures from a luxury car dealer with my cool and very loyal model also does make some continuing sales.
It also ended up with knowing, that this is a journey, that may take a lot longer than year. And even I won´t quit my day job right now :), I will however continue. Continue to try to improve, and continue to try to grasp the concepts that will make the stock approach work.
Current It is a lot about vintage. How stuff like this will sell, well I don´t know. But it is fun to make :) And it is quite easy to add copy space to this type of pictures !
And fun is a word I have used a lot. And maybe that is key. To have some good times, meet a bunch of great people, and make some pictures that others value so much, that they buy them and, probably, use them for something, well useful.
Thank you Dreamstime. For being supportive and positively accepting the first feeble attempts top make stock photos. Also thank you for the rejections, they were actually always fair (of course momentary incredibly annoying!), and I learned a lot from them.
But the biggest thanx to my loyal first model, who just doesn´t give up, and just keep smiling her bright smile.
Expect a new update in a year :)
