My first editoral shots accepted... NASCAR - It's Bristol... Baby!!     posted on 22nd of august, 2008

I had my first editorial shots accepted last night. None of them made the news page, but, I am pleased they are part of my portfolio. The fall race in Bristol is one of NASCAR’s most sought after tickets and family race night is always a hit. Even though I was sick and it was almost 90 degrees, I decided to take a chance and try to get an editorial or two.

one unexpected treasure was Lois J. Tyler, a sweet little lady who is one of NASCAR's little known legends. 53 years ago she drove, as her husband did, in the Daytona 500 inaugural race. a woman driver in that race must have been the talk around the track.

Anyone familiar with NASCAR knows the amount of sponsor info with a car or driver. Living in Bristol I have thought what a great thing to take pictures of, until I tried ...

check and double check     posted on 7th of june, 2008

first of all let me say YAY i am exclusive now, my application was accepted.

but i learned to double check things today when i realized i did not have all my extended licenses checked to sell the web usage or print usage. i cannot believe i have not had those activated.

so... check and double check your management area (manage licenses) to see if you are selling your images in all of the available options you want to offer.

Very good point, Denise. I've noticed in past, as I was about to submit, that some extended license options weren't checked off, but I may have let some unchecked ones slip by in past unnoticed. And CONGRATULATIONS! smiles - Ann - posted by Parrypix on June 09, 2008

Exclusive Photographer application submitted     posted on 4th of june, 2008

It's in the hands of the administrators. After nearly 2 and half years of wandering around I am back to dreamstime exclusively and I hope my application will be approved. I know exclusive status isn't for everyone but I think it is best for me.

I do not manage my time well

i am not organized

I do not do well pulled in different directions

I hope with this decision to see my portfolio grow and sales increase. Hopefully everything is moving in the right direction

It's very exciting experience to be exclusive photographer on DT. please wait for a couple of days and you will become an exclusive photographer . I believe that Dreamstime is photography institute for me as well as all ameatur photographers. So, don't get nervous, the decision will be in your favour. - posted by Pvvaidya57 on August 23, 2008
YEAH!!!! Kudos to you! I know this is a great desision. DT is always at the cutting edge of RF Stock. you can't lose here. - posted by Photojay on June 05, 2008
thanks everybody.. i am actually getting sort of excited about it now. i think the TOS says it could take a week to hear if it is approved or not. it will be good to get a handle on one agency and work toward building my portfolio for it. alice... you and i both know how fleeting life can be and to be so pulled apart made it too stressful. i would rather submit to one agency and have some time with my family than to be able to say "oh i submit to 7 agencies, blah blah blah" you know what i mean? well off to get my local stuff to the store for display and hopefully sell some of it. i will update when i hear from those in charge of the applications. - posted by Denisebeverly on June 05, 2008

PDN in a recent article summarizes the current supporters/opponents of the bill. - posted by Boughn on May 09, 2008
I've read this, and I don't see where this bill will hurt the artists. I see where it protects the artists. An Orphan Work is a work of art where the author is unknown, and will not affect anyone who is able to prove that a work is their own. Orphan Works . All this bill is doing is creating laws regarding abanonded works of art or works of art where the artist is unknown, probably because it was never recorded. That's all. Whoever created the website you posted exaggerated things and misinterpreted grossly. The links to the original bills you have posted even have sections regarding infringement, protecting the orphaned work until it is determined that that the author is untracable. I see this bill as a good thing for artists. - posted by Kenneystudios on May 08, 2008

1 month.....1 agency     posted on 4th of may, 2008

In just 1 month , I will downsize to only 1 microstock agency, Dreamstime.

I have submitted over the past 2 1/2 years to approximately 8 different agencies and somehow always begin with Dreamstime when I start to upload new images.

I began my process about a month ago by downsizing to 3 different agencies, each with their own unique portfolio. I have since deleted the one with the next largest amount of images and will soon have the last of them closed.

In narrowing down what I want to do with my computer time, I have decided this is best. This will allow me to be more productive and build my portfolio to a larger extent. I can have all exclusive images and provide my models with the knowledge that they are safe with one agency.

Also , designers looking ...

Looking at other portfolios     posted on 31st of march, 2008

I think that I will stop looking through others portfolios, seeing the most popular images, the newest images. I worry too much that I might accidently copycat someone else.

I love to see everyone else's designs and yet I am concerned that it will inspire me and that inspiration may be too close to the original, or a few days from now I will design something that is a vague recollection of something I have seen by someone else.

I have a varied portfolio as you can see by these different subjects.

I think the old adage "there is nothing new under the sun" is why I think of it. It is like the person who invents ...

Great post!! Of course intentional copying with so little efforts as possible and just steeling others work, telling it's mine creation, is totally disgusting, it's just not fair. But it's so true when we start too much worry about, could it be too similar to others, can just block our creative mind, and that doesn't help anyone. "There is nothing new under the sun" - I know where those words are from and they are so true. Every invention of scientists or artists is only reflection of what they can see from the big world around us. The Wright brothers designed an airplane after studying large birds in flight, Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel designed the tower in Paris, using the basic principles that enable the human thighbone to support the body’s weight. Swiss engineer George de Mestral noticed after a walk with his dog, that the dog’s fur were covered with burs, and after examination the burs under a microscope, he invented Velcro. I doubt there's any human inventions that don't imitate ... More) - posted by Maigi on April 03, 2008

Easter is hop,hop hopping along     posted on 5th of february, 2008

Easter is on its way. The easter bunny has been leaving candy in the stores all over town.

Churches are practicing the Easter cantata and sewing costumes, building sets. I have sung my heart out more than one Easter while dressed in Biblical robes and yet played Easter bunny for my son before we left for church.

Stained glass windows with colors ,translucent in the sun are echoed in the decorated eggs and colorful marshmallow bunnies and chicks we enjoy eating during this holiday season.

The Easter holidays are the gateway to spring, the bright pastel colors, fresh new tones, bringing color back into our wintery white world.

Enjoy the upcoming ...

Of peppermint and candy canes     posted on 23rd of november, 2007

simple stripes, simple colors, simple design and yet it almost immediately will bring to mind the feeling of the holidays.

you can almost smell the scent, taste the cool mint and visualize the shape of the peppermint stick or the curve of the cane.

for a somewhat traditional variation i threw in a little green and gold, and still they remind you of holiday wrapping paper and gifts under the tree. with all the hustle and bustle of the season, it is nice to know such a simple design can bring about the feeling of the holiday season. it doesn't have to be flashy or bright.

red and white, straight lines on a page , yet a well recognized icon of the season, a treat from our youth and a wonderful ...
