The 200th sale     posted on 28th of august, 2008

This is my 200th sale image. Is one of the most representative touristic monuments in Romania. It`s an important step for me, after the former step of 100 downloads (june 2008). I hope that the next one (300th) will coming sooner.

Poarta Sarutului (meaning Gate of the Kiss in english) is a sculpture made by Constantin Brancusi, and is located in Targu Jiu city (Romania). The Gate of the Kiss relates to Romanian much-decorated folk architecture in wood. The Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi, (1876-1957) was a pioneer of abstraction in sculpture art.

I have another blog description of this monument here: Kiss Gate of Brancusi

Thank you Dreamstime!

Gornergratbahn in Switzerland     posted on 19th of august, 2008

The Gornergratbahn is a 9 km long gauge mountain rack railway, with Abt rack system. It leads from Zermatt (1604 m), up to the Gornergrat (3089 m).

In Zermatt there are no motorised vehicles. You can arrive with train from Tasch, the last village with motorised permision.

The Gornergrat is surrounded by 29 peaks rising above 4,000 m in the Alps and several glaciers, including the Gornergletscher (which is the second longest glacier in the Alps after the Aletsch).

The train crosses impressive bridges, galleries and tunnels. At the end of the line on Gornergrat, the Matterhorn is visible on a clear day.

Travel in Romania :: Barsana Monastery     posted on 7th of august, 2008

Barsana Monastery is a complex with sixteen nuns. Created after 1989, on the site of a church abandoned in 1791, the complex has become a significant cultural and religious attraction. Its 56 meter-tall church is the tallest wooden structure in Europe. The church is now stand on a hill and is surrounded by orchard. Interior is very dark because of the lack of windows of the small pronaos. The expressive detail carved into architectural forms by Maramures craftsmen is a reason to visit and stay at Barsana. No power tools or nails were used in the large wooden structures. Its north-Transylvania location puts it close to the Ukrainian border in a hilly forested landscape, on the Iza valley.

"Barsan" is a romanian surname, from medieval ...

Panoramas with Carpathian mountains (part 1)     posted on 16th of july, 2008

The panoramic photography is used quite often by the mountaineers in order to show the mountains area due to the wide fields of view.

Often the panoramic photography can replace a map (when the sky is clear) for those who know (or if it appears on the photo) the toponyms of the area.

The panoramic photography is used more and more in the touristic descriptions, on mountains websites or travel guide books.

Here you can see some of my panorama pictures from Carpathian Mountains.

This panorama with the ruins of the old Dacian province of Roman Empire, was may best sell of panoramas: http://www.dreamstime.com/romans-ruins-in-romania-image4460236 - posted by Emicristea on July 17, 2008
Hello Ratmanddude. You cand see in EXIF that this images are made with normal camera. Composition is from three to ten images (depends on my frame ideea). When you shoot for panoramas you have to make the composition pictures in portrait format (even if you need to make more frames in this position than in landscape position). The advantage is that you make panoramas with bigger height and you don`t make distortion of the light from corner to corner. Is an disadvantage in Dreamstime to see a preview of a panorama because the lenght is limited to some pixels, and the buyer can`t see the details of panoramas to choose one for his needs. But is a protection for us, because our work can`t be still at some resolution that someone can use it on webpages (for examples). - posted by Emicristea on July 17, 2008
Hi, I was just wondering … Have you shot these on a monster camera, or are they the results of compositing of few frames together? The latter is my only way, to date … to get anything of a really "usable" size, as I only have a 10MP [SONY A-200] at the moment. My samplings are a range of items … perhaps you may be interested to see them: http://www.dreamstime.com/wanderers-cricket-stadium-image5682081 http://www.dreamstime.com/hawequa-mountains-image4814418 http://www.dreamstime.com/rainbow-vista-image4589666 Unfortunately, as the landscape format is so much smaller in height – the disadvantage, I believe is that the image previews are much too small in the browser — I guess that the width is the governing dynamic, but wouldn't be better if the previews were then limited to a double width block? What say you? - posted by Ratmandude on July 16, 2008

On 20-22 July 2008 was the first edition of Brasov’s Medieval Feasts. The event managed to revive the medieval atmosphere of this famous medieval burg.

For three days, the audience was immerged into real-like medieval ambiance, they could listen and see medieval music and dance or watch the first knights and horses tournament ever organized in Romania.

In the images you can see the mobilization of medieval Szekler army, and fighting with signals and 12 meters torch, and medieval suit of a woman.

Travel in Romania :: Sighisoara (part I)     posted on 24th of june, 2008

The Church from the Hill

This gothic medieval church (initialy romano-catholic) in Sighisoara medieval city, is the third great saxon cathedral in Romania.

The Church from the Hill (Bergkirch in german) is an old saxon cathedral of Sighisoara (the third great church in Transylvania), built between 1345-1525. is with no doubt the most valuable architectonical monument of the city. This church is under St. Nicholas'patronage. The church includes the two older constructions on the superior plateau of the hill: a Romanic chapel and a quadrilateral dungeon. The monument is also valuable through the only one chapel known in Transylvania, situated under the choir and which contains tombs dating from the 16th - 18th centuries. The church ...

Travel in Romania :: Rupea Fortress     posted on 23rd of june, 2008

The Rupea Fortress is located in center of Romania, in Brasov county at 500 meters altitude, in vicinity Olt River, national highway from Brasov to Cluj-Napoca and on the western side of Rupea city. The fortress was built on a basalt rocky hill.

In Dacian times, on the top of a basalt rock there was a fortress that is said to be named Ramidava (or Rumidava, in the other sources). During the XIV century, the Saxons found the fortress destroyed and they built on its ruins, on several steps, a peasant fortress (in 1324 is mentioned „Castrum Kuholm” where the refugees found a hidden place in the citadel running from the fury of the Hungarian king Robert Carol's army).

They named it the same name the local people used: Reps (much ...

Dragon`s Garden in Romania     posted on 11th of june, 2008

The Dragon`s Garden from Galgaul Almasului (Gradina Zmeilor in romanian) is an ensemble of high formations, with strange figures cut in sandstone by wind and water erosion.

This natural reservation site is located in the Western Carpathians (Apuseni). Young oak-trees and strange shaped formations of sandstone (from the early Miocene - 20 million years ago), with insertions of gravel and stone made this ensemble of towers with 10-12 highness.
