China on Monday began a three-day national mourning for the tens of thousands of people killed in a powerful earthquake which struck the country's southwest on May 12.

At 4:58 a.m., the national flag at the Tian'anmen Square in downtown Beijing flew at half-mast after a complete flag-raising ceremony.

 

And on Sunday, China Seismological Bureau Sunday revised the magnitude of the earthquake from 7.8 to 8.0 on the Richter scale.

A powerful earthquake in southwest China killed nearly 20, 000 people now and the death toll is expected to climb as rescue efforts are intensifying.

Sichuan is my hometown,a beautiful place.

China has an abundance of 1300 local operas.Sichuan opera is one of Chinese oldest local operas and is popular in Sichuan.It is the most sigificant and most interesting opera form from Southwest of China.

As a stage entertainment ,it convey the idea of time and space to the audience through performances.theopera is characterized by its unique solo singing,refined acting,rich percussion ,the changing faces is its unique skills.

The Wu Hou Shrine in Chengdu, west of China     posted on 17th of september, 2007

The Wu Hou Shrine, located in the southern suburbs of Chengdu, is the memorial shrine of ZhueLiang, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Shu in the period of the Three Kingdoms. It was built in the sixth century A.D. and was merged into the Zhao Lie Temple at the end of the 14th century. Therefore the front gate lintel bears the characters“Han Zhao Lie Temple”. The existing halls were rebuilt in the 11thyear of Kang Xi’s Reign of the Qing dynasty(1672A.D.)

Ghost food, as nicknamed by locals who are always up to labeling things in a disparaging way, has a long history in Chengdu, which also boasts a great number of top class restaurants serving glamorous foods. The ghost food sprang up as grassroots ingenuity many years ago when some poorer people set up shaky tables with wooden benches and planted ovens on the roadsider to carry on a catering business targeting at night owls and people who left off night-shifts. I come from Sichuan.

Sichuan province is in southwest of China,at the upper reaches of the Changjiang Riverwith the huge Sichuanbasin in the east and mountainous areas of Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau in the west.

Being rich in agriculture, forestry and hydroelectric resources,it is entitled "Land of Abundance"

 

Sichuan has 15 nationalities such as Han,Yi,Qiamh,Since each each has its own history and culture,this brings the area many marvellous folkways and customs.

The province boasts many beautiful scenic spots and numerous cultural relics ,such as Mt.Emei,Jiuzhaigou-Huanglong ,Mt.Gomngga,Siguniang.

Welcome to Sichuan

五月的时候开车路过四川, 本想玩个够,不料农民伯伯们都在烧麦秸,呛得很,只好放弃。只去了三星堆和熊猫繁育基地。希望以后还有机会再去。 - posted by Miao on August 28, 2007
