How long can he hide?     posted on 13th of march, 2008

The most wanted man in Singapore is now still on the run, two weeks and counting without assistance or aid. Where has he been hiding? Mas Selamat Kastari is the centre of attraction in this entire saga.

Singapore is a built up area with very little thick vegetation, of which most have already been scoured and turned upside down by the gurkhas and police personnel. Everything ended up in vain.

Over a thousand personnel deployed and yet two weeks in a small country he has managed to evade re-capture.

Putting negligence aside on the security issue, we hope a terrorist like him will be arrested soon. Every single day out there is another day of future threat.

God given rays     posted on 11th of march, 2008

I'm happy that finally one of my picture has reached level 3. A first in fact. Those level 4 pictures were assignment pictures and this God's Ray picture is a hard earned effort.

I wonder though, what designers might be interested in using this picture.

Anyone care to share? Thanks for downloading it by the way!

First time doing a TFCD (time for CD) with a male model and he agreed for the pictures to be put on DT. Which is a bonus because I get to learn to shoot portraiture outdoors as well as benefit from commercial sales here.

For those who like army stuff, here are some sample pictures.

Hi eprom its actually a replica gun. In my country, owning a real gun is illegal. There are very strict gun rules here in Singapore. Well, the downloads you saw was actually assignment pictures which they escalated to level 4. which means that buyers will have to pay more for those photos since its of higher level. :) - posted by Fertographer on February 29, 2008
Cool!:) it is a real gun? one question for you. i see your profile, your total sales is 280. but you have 7 photos up to 100 downloads, than means >700 downloads. why the total sales is still 280? - posted by Eprom on February 29, 2008

My first editorial image     posted on 18th of february, 2008

Finally my first editorial image is up.

It is about Total Defence Day in Singapore. An exhibition held at Discovery Centre to promote national awareness about how our independence, peace and harmony today is achieved through sweat and blood.

It consists of social, military, psychological, economical and political defense. Each as important as the other.

This exhibition also allows school to make organized outings and excursion to expose the little children to such an educational message awareness. When they grow up, they will realize the importance of having a safe and stabilized place to live and work in.

Music piracy     posted on 13th of february, 2008

Today's world is ultimately dominated by internet almost everywhere. Wherever there is modernisation, there is entertainment and music, then there is the internet.

The internet is so essential in our daily chores and routine that we may be crippled without it.

When I had pictures and couldn't upload to DT, it was so frustrating.

Internet is a friend to many, yet a foe to others.

The music industry has been suffering alot because of rampant online downloading. This has forced some major market players to go bust or simply pull out of this competition.

I am amused by how songs by The Beatles can be continually reorganised with different hits each time and put on sale. Likewise for many other oldies. Or at least this is happening in my country.

Here ...

In the mood for new year     posted on 8th of february, 2008

Well, with reference to the topic, I was never interested. Why?

As much as I am an adult now, just past 21, the real adults like to indulge in their talks, they ask me, my sister and every other child the same questions everywhere.

"what are you doing currently?"

"so any plans?"

Questions repeated in different rephrasings. They never change.

Of course, since the childhood days, collecting red packets was the only thing I looked forward to.

If there is anything that made the occassion more joyous than it was suppose to be, it must be credited to the kids. They bring a common topic to both the young and old. Everyone is wanting their turn to have a little pinch at the little baby or to ask silly questions to tease the 8 year old girl.

They also bring about much subject to ...

Better technology, better pictures     posted on 25th of january, 2008

As technology improves, the ease to take better and nicer photographs speeds up quickly.

With nikon d300's 3d tracking, 51 point area focusing, its sometimes quite hard to miss a moving object. The success rate is high and it gives you, as the photographer confidence

With a higher success rate, it translates to lesser wastage of unnecessary shutter counts (that is depreciation which is a cost!)

I'm no spokesman for nikon but a camera like this has definitely eased my worries of getting lousy pictures for stock.

My new toy     posted on 17th of january, 2008

well, i just upgraded to nikon's d300. Intended to sell my d80 initially but at hindsight, i decided to keep it as a spare. Though at a cost to keep it with depreciation and dropping value, it might just come in handy.

And with a new toy to go with, hopefully its time to produce better pictures even though D80 already can and have done so thus far.

Full steam ahead!~

Hey Fertographer--So far, so good with Mask Pro. I haven't made the jump to paying for the full-time version yet, but I'm very pleased with it thus far. Let me know what you think if you try it. - posted by Charlesoutcalt on January 25, 2008
Good for you! You are going to love it! I purchased my D300 about 6 weeks ago. Now I can't stand to produce any images by a lesser camera. - posted by Ginosphotos on January 18, 2008

Finding opportunities for stock in what seems to be not     posted on 8th of november, 2007

I was at a shopping mall one day to try my hands on shooting some runway shots. It was my first and probably last as I got bored of it. It didn't mean a thing to have the faces of the models and clothes I won't buy kept in my harddisk. At least that is me.

Haha

So, there I was. Initially at the centre, sounds good but not. I was mobbed by photographers who were already in front hogging the best views for frontal shots. Well the sides were available, the runway was a small one, made like a horse racing track that ran both ways parallel to each other. I took the right side.

The models did pose along the way and even to the sides. Actually I felt it was better because of the fewer photographers, the chances of getting eye contact in the picture is higher compared ...

The ironic nature of photo competition today     posted on 6th of november, 2007

It suddenly struck my mind about this issue even though I did think about it before some time back.

I am in this nikon club for nikon camera users in singapore hence nikonclub.com.sg

I am using this as an example rather that directing it at the above mention. Have we wondered about the photo competition today? For example, the prize is a nikon coolpix compact camera. In the club, the users vary from compact to DSLRs.

The challenge simply put across is quite simple, DSLR may not necessary 'thrash' a compact camera's abilities because the user is equally as important. However, speaking of technical abilities, the DSLR gives much more freedom to manipulate the settings.

Bokeh, long exposures and star effects are some to say. Compact cameras might find ...

haha of course. some contest cost in the printing of the pictures and if that is for small camera is not worth it. i too wanted to have a compact camera for convenient sake but decided not to and to let my sister have it instead. i'll still glady bear the weight and burden of a dslr haha - posted by Fertographer on November 09, 2007

    About Me
Koh Sze Kiat (Fertographer)
Singapore, SG

I'm one who likes to shoot things around us that we usually take for granted. I take this opportunity to present the these subjects as stock photos. You might have seen them but have not took a second glance at them. I have them here for you :)

Do leave a comment if you have downloaded my photos or credit to my name so that I can know where they are being used, it will be greatly appreciated if I can get to see my works published elsewhere. :)

Have a nice day!
