Trying something new     posted on 2nd of october, 2008

After recent success in adding some new types of images to my portfolio -- signing up two golf models, I attempted to take some of these images and isolate the golfers onto a white background thus furthering the diversification of my portfolio with existing images.

I studied many of the posted blogs on isolation techniques and although it sounds easy on first read, I quickly learned that patience and practice are necessary for quality results

The first submissions were rejected, however on the second try, two of the images were accepted and a third is waiting approval -- keeping my fingers crossed as the third image, a dog, which was very challenging in isolating the fine fur from the background.

First on my list of wants, after I reach my first payout -- getting ...

Nice job!! I know how painstakingly the process is to isolate an image, just look at some of my automotive photos. - posted by Macdaddy on October 02, 2008
Thanks for your kind and positive comments! Keeping my fingers crossed that they sell. :) - posted by Marilyngould on October 02, 2008

Happy Day!     posted on 8th of october, 2008

Just wanted to share that after several days on the golf course, dodging flying golf balls while lugging the tripod and camera over hill and dale my favorite photo and the last shot of the day, has been accepted for the sport assignment.

Upon checking my email, finding a slew of rejections there in the midst was the one email that invokes the happy dance moment.

I wish you all many of these happy moments!

Cheers,

Marilyn

Simple can be Good!     posted on 18th of october, 2008

Hello everyone,

I had an accomplishment today, it will most likely be very insignificant to most, however for me it lifted my confidence and I wanted to share with those of you who understand that even the smallest success can put a smile on one’s face.

I submitted several images for the current assignment. Only one of the submitted images was accepted, the rest were rejected, many for the same reason of being “too simplistic”.

Well, on checking my sales this morning I found that one of the “too simplistic assignment rejections” has now sold for the fifth time and has elevated to level 2! This is my first photo that has elevated itself by sales alone and not by assignment acceptance.

So even if rejected for one function this photo has filled a need ...

Thanks Irisangel and Mayatairy. Selling an image certainly takes the sting out of the rejection AND it is indeed a matter of perspective. Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder! :) - posted by Marilyngould on October 20, 2008
It is always a matter of perspective :-) Good job! Congratulations :-) - posted by Mayatairy on October 20, 2008
I know what you mean, I have a few images here that were rejected somewhere else and visa versa. You can't help but smile a little when it sells a few times, makes the rejection a little easier to handle. Very nice image! Congratulations. - posted by Irisangel on October 19, 2008

My First Editors Choice!     posted on 23rd of october, 2008

Hey everyone I just am about to burst with happiness, in checking my profile for sales this morning I scrolled down and nearly fell off my chair -- my favorite macro model, Truman the jumping spider has been selected as an Editors Choice!

This plucky little fellow is out in the flowers every afternoon looking for fly snacks and never seems to mind posing for a few photos.

The fact that many people fear or scorn these tiny creatures is at times disheartening. Therefore, I would like to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to the Editor for enjoying this photo and making it my first Editors Choice.

Cheers to all --

Marilyn

Thank you Iris! Good luck and best wishes to you as well. :) - posted by Marilyngould on November 18, 2008
Congratulations! That's a scary little creature. I have named some of the frogs that live around my house, but never a spider. Good luck with all your sales. - posted by Irisangel on November 18, 2008
Hey Maigi, Great information, thanks! Truman lives in a Marguerite bush (chrysanthemum frutescens) in my garden. His name was given by a friend who viewed his photo and just felt a spider with this much personality required a name I have not seen Truman for a few days -- hopefully he has not become dinner for a bird! :( - posted by Marilyngould on November 14, 2008
