Review: The Canon Gadget Bag.     posted on 25th of november, 2007

You've just bought your first digital, single-lens reflex camera, and now you need to protect it. But how do you go about protecting your new camera? A camera bag is a nice start. In this article, I will review the Canon Gadget Bag.

The Size -

First of all, the Canon Gadget Bag has plenty of room to store your camera and accessories. You can easily fit two lenses(maybe three), the camera itself, and most of your other accessories into this camera bag. The approximate length is fourteen inches, the width is seven inches, and the height is around nine inches.

As for pockets, you have five altogether. There are two smaller pockets on the left and right side of the camera bag, which are useful for storing something like the battery charger and a couple of filters. The ...

Thanks a lot for this thoughtful and useful review. Here's something to think about when buying this bag or any other: your back. Most professional photographers that I know that have shot for over 10-15 years have back problems from hauling their gear around in over the shoulder bags. Most of the ones have now switched to camera backpacks to evenly divide the weight between both shoulders. They aren't as convenient but you can always wear a camera vest while shooting and leave the bag stowed. - posted by Boughn on November 26, 2007

Make Your Next Camera Buying Experience Easier.     posted on 26th of august, 2007

These days, there are a vast number of digital cameras to choose from. It can be a very tedious process. However, it does not have to be. In this article, I will offer some suggestions on how your next camera buying experience can be easier.

First off, should you choose a camera with digital or optical zoom? This is easy. You should always choose optical zoom because digital zoom degrades the quality of your photos. However, it's okay if your camera comes with both digital and optical zoom. Just make sure that you only use the optical zoom, and disable the digital zoom.

And what about megapixels? The more megapixels you have the better the picture quality will be, right? Well yes and no. There are many factors that affect your picture quality, and megapixles is just one of them. Here's ...

I was so happy when I received my first lens with image stabilization (was a present from my husband-to-be). I am not very steady and tend to shake a lot in my hands, my arms, and my upper torso. Even if it's not noticable to the naked eye, the camera seems to have no trouble picking it up! Since IS (image stabilization) is a big issue for me, that is one of the first things I must look for, especially when purchasing a long or heavy lens. I have seen that new cameras themselves now have IS built into them. I'm looking into purchasing a new, smaller but professional camera -- the Canon G-9. I cannot remember right now if it has IS, but I am definately going to look again. Thanks for the tips! I'm sure they will help many people. - posted by Kenneystudios on August 26, 2007

I think I just missed out.     posted on 17th of august, 2007

I own twenty five shares of a stock called PCC. I checked it this morning at around 10:15 AM Central Time. It was down to only two cents per share! PCC had been around $12.50 or so yesterday. And when I checked the stock again in five minutes, it had gone back up to $12.25! Either this was a glitch, or I just missed out on a huge buying opportunity. If I had bought a hundred shares at two cents each, I would have made more than a thousand dollars in five minutes. Sigh, I really hope it was a glitch.

Reasons for Buying A Light Tent.     posted on 5th of august, 2007

If you plan on becoming a professional photographer then you have probably heard of the term light tent. But do you really need one? The answer to this question is a resounding yes if you plan on making any money from your photos. In this article, I will describe what a light tent is and cite three reasons why you should buy one.

Defining What A Light Tent Is -

A light tent is basically a cheaper alternative to studio lighting. Light tents filter the light, so that it is perfect for photos. These light tents come in different sizes, and they're especially useful for obtaining a pure white background.

This pure white background is also known as an isolated background. You can either buy a light tent from a store such as Amazon, or build your own light tent. If you choose to build your ...

Accessories for your DSLR camera.     posted on 26th of july, 2007

If you have an interest in photography, you are probably going to buy a DSLR(digital single lens reflex) camera at some point. But what other types of equipment will you need for this type of camera? In this article, I will give some examples of the type of equipment you will need for your DSLR.

One of the most important pieces of equipment you can buy is a decent camera bag. The camera bag will protect your camera from dust, moisture, accidental drops; etc. As for the size of the camera bag, it just depends on how much equipment you will carry.

If you're just going to use one lens and a few smaller pieces of equipment, then buy a smaller camera bag. However, if you use several different lenses and lots of additional equipment then buy a larger bag.

What about lenses? There are a variety ...

Can you live off of your stock photo earnings?     posted on 26th of july, 2007

Most photographers dream of the day when they can give up the day job and focus one hundred percent on their photography. But how hard is it to actually do?

I've often wondered about this, so I did some research. Everyone's cost of living will differ, but most people probably need to earn at least $30,000 per year. How hard is this to do with stock photo earnings? Well, assuming that the photos you sell go for the minimum $.25 then you would need to sell three hundred fifty images per day.

That's seven days a week. In order to reach this number, you will probably need at least a thousand photos(probably more) in your portfolio that are spread across several different stock agencies. Five or more seems like a good number to me. Obviously, if the majority of your images sell for a dollar ...

It's extremely difficult to do, considering the highly competitive environment of today combined with (all due respect to Dreamstime) agencies that foster an environment of extremely cheap, royalty-free photos. In order to truly profit from your photography/art, you will need to diversify your strategy and consider more than simply stock photography as a source of revenue. - posted by Mpalmer on July 27, 2007
Good luck, hope you can make it happen. I think it would take more than 1,000....maybe more like 10,000. But then again, I'm new to stock photog. and have alot to learn. - posted by Lisamarie on July 26, 2007
