Ah-Niao, the old lady cat     posted on 30th of april, 2008

I would like to share the story behind this illustration. About 4 years ago, I got an e-mail from my mom in Taiwan regarding a cat waiting to be adopted. My mom's co-worker saw this cat at the vet. Her previous owner was an old lady who got cancer. Because she had to be hospitalized, she couldn't take care the cat any more. She left the cat with the vet, hoped that somebody would adopt her.

However, she still wanted to visit the cat sometimes. The vet told her that it would be difficult, plus the cat was already 14. Who would adopt a cat that old?

My mom sent this e-mail around, hopefully to reach more people. It made me cry when I read it, but there was nothing I could do about it since I wasn't even in the same country.

2 weeks later, I got another e-mail from my ...

A passion, a change of life     posted on 12th of march, 2008

Compared to most of the illustrators here, I'm just a beginner.

I was born and raised in Taiwan. Got a BA in English there and came to US for my graduated studies. I got a MS in graphic design, right now I'm working at a publisher doing mainly newspaper layouts. I went to drawing classes when I was a kid. Unlike most of parents in Taiwan only care about the school grades, my parents encouraged me to explore something outside the classroom. I did some drawing, some piano, and lot of sports. However, the passion about doing illustration just came back to me recently in a totally different form.

Because of the low budget at work, I was forced to make out lot of things from nothing. I realized that I was actually not too bad at it, and I really enjoyed doing it. Now, making ...

Yes, the pending time has been increasing a lot recently. It only took a day or two when I uploaded my first image. Last one took 67 hours, and the latest one is gonna take 103 hours! I wondering if it's because the coming holidays? - posted by Tang167 on March 13, 2008
Talking about rejection. I got my first rejection the very next day of my first sell. So the first day I was like "YES!! YES!!" and the next day, "OH NO!!..." Very dramatic mood swing for me. But I admit it was not good enough, I didn't put all my heart and soul into it. :P However, the good part is that I learned from it. I hope I won't get rejected anymore. Because now I know what it takes. - posted by Tang167 on March 13, 2008
Thank you guys! That was also my first blog article. I was a little bit surprised to see such a warm welcome in such a short time. :) I love both cats and dogs, but I have only been living with cats so far. I love the way they move, sit, sleep, so elegant, especially the girl cats. I can just watch them doing nothing for hours. There's actually a story about that Siamese cat. I plan to write about it in the next article. - posted by Tang167 on March 13, 2008
