I want to tirade against three words, three words that can make anybody in the creative field of design cringe with a sense of disgust and loathing for the obviously ignorant individual that utters them. “Make it Pretty” Don’t get me wrong, I am all for creating aesthetically pleasing designs get the point across while pleasing the eyes of the viewer. In fact that is one of the best way to get people to look at what is being advertised. Bringing a sense of beauty to a product by creating a look and feel that makes customers want to buy it, or find out more about it, is what graphic advertising is all about. While some people like to look at hideous things continually, I myself do not. So it makes sense that people pay and want designers to make the designs they ... [ Read more... ]

Well said. My own greatest challenges have been with copyfitting into ad space, trying to explain why they shouldn't have twelve bullet points in an 1/8 pg spot. - posted by

Do you ever get the feeling that you are stuck in a never-ending cycle of clichés and stereotypes? If you do, then you might be an In-house Graphic Designer. Yes that's right, If you, like me, once dreamed of that awesome job in the creative world, where you and high end magazine publishers would rub shoulders, and have the ability to tell some of the best photographers in the industry that there shot doesn't look quite right for the ad for Nike, you too would have been struck with a large dose of reality upon graduation from the creative school of your choice. Reality hit me, and it hit hard. I graduated in early October of 2001, literally three weeks after September 11th, and one of our nations biggest tragedies. The only people that showed ... Ha, I totally understand. I wish I could be creative in a more free environment. But to be honist, it pays the bills, and it is better then washing cars, working at Walmart, or pushing papers in some office. It's good that you get a chance to be creative. Your photos are quite nice. I am sure that you will do well on this sight.
Have a great day!

Really nice blog - interesting stuff! I come from a family of graphic designers and they too seem to be disillusioned in this changed world of 'design' - it's not at all like it used to be. I also work in the business but supplying to ad agencies - again, there doesn't seem to be much creativity or glamour involved! That's why I love taking photographs - it's my creative time. I am realizing though, since I am new to stock photography, that it is a challenge to think less about the creativity and think more about what the designer needs...still it's better than being in the office! - posted by

Very good insight. Yes I was an in house designer for several years. Many of the youngsters who enter the graphics design field think they will be doing "cool" stuff all the time, As you know, it ain't all that! It's delivering for the needs of your employer, and most of the time it isn't very glamorous :-) Love your work. - posted by

Everyone spends a great deal of time and energy discussing the environment these days. Global warming, the oceans rising, and strange weather events. Very few media events focus a great deal of energy on a much more serious problem, saving fresh water. There are some parts of the United States where droughts are so bad that people are using rain buckets to collect fresh water so they can water their plants when there is no rain because using sprinklers is prohibited. Water is a precious resource in our environment. All life depends on it. Growing populations and ongoing droughts are running our fresh water resources dry, causing natural habitats to decline and impacting our everyday use of water. People in industrialized ... Every year People all over the world bring in the next 365 days with many hopes, aspirations, and more then a few ideas on how to make things better. None of those ideas has quite the emphasis as the “New Years Resolution”. Resolution- a resolve or determination: to make a firm commitment to do something. The act of resolving or determining upon an action or course of action, method, procedure, etc. It is estimated that 42% of Americans have resolved to loose some excess weight this New Year. Needless to say, I am among those brave people that dare to dream of a thinner, healthier, more attractive self. I have a plan, and I am sure that it will be a success. I plan on eating less, and moving more, what ... [ Read more... ]

“It's cold outside”, I thought to myself yesterday morning. The sun had not yet risen and I was weary about leaving the comfortable warmth of my apartment, only to get into my icebox of a car, and drive 20 min to work. It was the coldest it had been all year. My hands were numb, and my breath was visible in the pre-dawn air. How cold was it, one might ask. Before I reveal the actual temperature and upset all of the people that are currently freezing in climates that should be un-inhabitable at least 4 months out of the year, I should mention that I live in Central Florida. Between the Sunny cities of Tampa and Orlando. Don't get upset yet. I haven't revealed the temperature that had me wishing I had ... [ Read more... ]

I thought I might create my first blog on a really happy note. Christmas is here in a week, and new years is just around the corner. All I can say is…Party Time!!! This is the time to dance, have fun, listen to some really great music and put on some sparkly, tacky, and brightly colored ornaments just to show off. I don’t know about anybody else, but I am definitely looking forward to it. Sure beets stressing out over which gift to give who, and how much the budget it for each individual based on there level of relationship. Get ready to have some fun, cut loose, and cut the rug. I know it’s a few days early but Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!

Thanks so much for the comment. I agree with you about being a time to reflect. But we can always take time to reflect. What I have found more troubling is some people are not able to relax, let go, breath in life, enjoy it. We will always have Yesterday, We might not have tomorrow, so why not live as much life as we can today, and reflect and improve as we go along. That way, we become better people, and we can make the world a more joyful place. Turn on the news, there is no doubt this world needs more joy. - posted by

Party, dance, fun are thinks that people do for such days, but that is just feelings, emotions and that. What we have from that? they last too short. We need something else. something real. Maybe we should more think about last year, what we did, are we better from last year? what we can do, to be better persons in the year in front us?
I think we should more think for things like this, and not just think for one night. - posted by

Art, color, light, nature, and tons of other things grab my attention. I liken this world and all of the fasinating images in it to me being like a Kid in a candy store. There is so much to see that I could go nuts taking pictures and drawing. I have been blessed with creativity which I enjoy at every moment of my life. Everything I do is effected by it. Everything i do comes out of it. For that I am greatful. It is also my job to be creative, so that works out well for me.
