For Nikon D800 users

posted on 10th of march, 2014

Hello everybody, I just wanted to share an experience I had with DT that took me a while to figure out.
I have been uploading RAW files taken with a Nikon D300 as additional format with every submission with no problems. It was after I started using a Nikon D800 with the "uncompressed RAW" setting when I could not upload files on this format anymore.

After sending several inquiries to Costumer support and not getting a valid response or solution, it occur to me that maybe there's a "limit on size" allowed for files to upload on DT?

It turned out there is: 70 megabytes.
So unfortunately for now, I will only be able to upload RAW files IF they are compressed so the size does not exceed 70mb. sacrificing some resolution.

I'm sure that as cameras...

I have an illustration which is 8000 pixels wide 300dpi. PSD filesize is 55mb. Tried to upload it as additional file but DT site failed uploading it.

Hi Kerem,

As specified in our FAQ section, the accepted additional formats are:

"The additional format is a file that doubles the price of the maximum raster (JPG) file for that file. Photographers can upload RAW files in the following formats: arw, pmp, srf - Sony ; crw, cr2 - Canon; cmt - Chinon; dcr - Kodak; dng - Digital Negative Format; j6i - Ricoh; mos - Leaf Valeo; mrw - Minolta; nef - Nikon; orf - Olympus; pef - Pentax; raf - Fuji; x3f - Sigma; rw2 - Panasonic Lumix.
Illustrators can upload vectors as cdr- Corel Draw, ai - Adobe Illustrator, eps - Encapsulated Postscript, png - Portable Network Graphics."

Surely in the future Dreamstime change the size limit of the files. However, the resolution sacrificed is relative and not absolute. I have a D700 and load them with the NEF formats are not compressed. I also hope that in the future DT also accept other formats like PSD, C4D to facilitate the work.

I agree that the resolution reduction for compressing is minimal. And the D700 file size are within DT's limit. But technology evolves, I'm sure that DT will keep up with new camera models and higher standards.

I don't think PSD files are in the list of accepted additional files, check DT's accepted extensions.
