Travel Camera

posted on 17th of august, 2007

Time and time again, people ask about carrying a camera around everywhere. While it's something I would absolutely love to do, with all of my wonderful lenses, it's not always practical. There are plenty of nice point and shoot cameras out there that slip nicely into a pocket or small bag, but they don't always give the result preferred for stock photography.

With this dilemma in mind, I set out in search of a compact professional camera -- something that shoots in RAW, captures 8 to 10 mega pixel images, and is combact enough to fit into a purse or small carry bag.
I scoured through the local stores, in search of the perfect masterpiece, but fell short with only 5 and 6 mega pixels.
I had almost given up hope. But being the stubborn person that I can be, I refused to give up just yet. I came home and set myself to searching the internet, manufacturer by manufacturer.
Being partial to Canon, I started there. I found this beaut:
Powershot G-7
-- 10mpx
-- 2.5 in. LCD display
-- Noise Reduction Shutter Option
-- ISOs 80 to 1600
-- +/-2 exposure compensation in 1/3 increments
-- TONS of shooting modes: Auto, P, Av, Tv, M, C1, C2, Special Scene (Portrait, Landscape, Night Scene, Sports, Foliage, Snow, Beach, Fireworks, Aquarium, Underwater, ISO 3200, Indoor, Kids & Pets, Night Snapshot, Color Accent, Color Swap), Stitch Assist, Movie
-- PLUS TONS OF OTHER GOODIES!

So, how big is it?

4.19 x 2.83 x 1.67 in.

Perfect for slipping in a bag, and still capturing great shots!

Sounds great. They certainly packed a lot of stuff into such a small camera! Hope you get to carry it in your purse soon!
