Blessed to have a supportive husband

posted on 25th of july, 2008

I am extremely happy to have a husband that is so supportive of me when it comes to my photography. A little over 3 years ago my husband and I moved to the Bay Area of California from Houston, Texas and after moving here I decided to become a housewife. During the first year of us moving to California I picked up photography as a hobby by deciding to barrow my husbands Nikon D70 and realized that I loved photography and it came natural to me. With being a housewife it gave me plenty of time to practice. After that first day of using his camera he was never able to get it back from me so eventually he had to buy himself a new camera the Nikon D70s.

My subjects for learning photography was animals at the San Francisco Zoo which I eventually started donating my pictures to the zoo for them to use in advertisements, zoo publications, exhibit signs and other things that they need them for. Everyone told me that I should sell my work but never had the courage to do it. In December 2007 I was approached by several different news media wanting to use some of my pictures of Tatiana the Siberian Tiger which gave me a little taste of selling my photographs. My husband has constantly encouraged me to sell my photographs but after selling my Tatiana pictures he encouraged me more by buying me the Nikon D300 which he knew I really wanted. On top of him telling me of how proud he was of me when it comes to my photography when ever he found an article on the internet dealing with photography that he thought would interest me he would send it my way. One of the articles that he sent me dealt with Stock Photography and in the article they highly recommended Dreamstime and I am glad that they did because I have been enjoying my new adventure with Stock Photography.

I am very happy that my husband kept on encouraging me to start selling stock photos because without him I probably never would of sold my photographs.

@Irisangel I was actually born in Florida :) Lived there most of my life but after marrying my husband his job sent him to Houston so we lived there for several years and then his job at the time moved us to his home state of California.

Great Portfolio, I especially like the images of the Japanese Gardens. My story is very similar to yours, except we moved from NY to Florida. Good luck to you in the future.

Thanks for the comment :)

I tell my husband all the time that I happy that he supports what I want to do in life. Photography has become my passion and through Dreamstime I have learned a lot more when it comes to photography which is helping me to expand my portfolio.

good for you. i too am a housewife and have always had a love for photography. i was without a camera for a while and had to do illustrations but my first love is photography and i am trying to get back to it.

i also have a very supportive husband. we recently began selling greeting cards with my photos on them. as soon as it is all in place, i am going to get very serious about my portfolio having more photos.

you have some wonderful shots. glad you took a chance.

About me

Update November 17, 2010: Earlier this year I made a decision that I would not be selling my photos any more but would start removing my photos in November. I would like to thank everyone that has given me wonderful comments on my photos the past several years and to the the buyers that have bought my photos. I now will only be displaying my photos for show in a photography journal that I have created which you can find the link listed under my website. I've recently started going back to school for a degree in Zoology and trying to keep up with my stock photography and schooling ... [Read more]
