Fog. Not always as bad as it seems...

posted on 30th of december, 2008

About a year ago I moved to a part of Switzerland that is known for being foggy for four to six months a year.

The sky during Winter here is almost constantly of a dull light grey, when it's not completely white, and the temperatures are almost always around zero degrees Centigrade.

Dreary place, you'll say. Well, up to a point I agree. The local weather certainly reduced the amount of outdoor pictures I take during the cold months. At the same time, it takes fog and low temperatures to have trees covered in ice crystals, giving them that "infrared image" look.

And when the fog goes away, there are those magical moments between the return of the blue sky and when the trees shake off their frosty clothes.

You don't get that where the weather is always nice...

Fog is my favorite weather element in real life, and in your photos, it adds a wow effect!

Nice images. For me fog can make an ordinary scene quite mystical and very different. My favorites are mountain fog, forest fog and seacoast fog and all can make a very ordinary image standout, make it more appealing and henceforth more saleable.
