Rubik's Cube

Do you have this toy? Do you know how to solve it? What is your best record?

The Rubik's Cube was born in 1974. Same birth year as me!
For sure, you know how old am I. right? :)
Yes, since I was a child, I have owned one as a toy. During that time, I only can solve one face in same color. This few years, it became popular again in my place. I bought a 3x3 cube for my Kids, they cannot solve it , then I tried to solve it as follow the provided solution, finally, I have solved it in same colors for all six faces. and now, my best record is about 2.5 minutes.
I will going to teach my kids to solve it..

I also bought one Rubik's cube keychain in mini size (3cm)

Here is the photo:

It can be played also. Really cute!

Hi Maigi, you have loads of information at your finger tip, a mini computer I guess, as I see in most of the blogs you have links to everything. Maigi your presence in DT is an asset to DT

Yes, I call it Math. LOL That wasn't my strongest subject at school... :))
Anyway, here is the link, if somebody wants to try: www.youcandothecube.com :) Have fun!

It has been years... I remember nearly solving it. I put it down to do the chores and my nephew took all the colored stickers off and stuck them back one (he was around 7 at that time). I was so mad because the stickers would never stay on after that...

I gave up :). I think I managed one side :) of the same color but alas, what to do with the others?

Comment by Billysiew on April 14, 2009

Yes, it was fun. Maigi, I don't think it has any related to math. Just remember some formula, even close your eyes you can finish some patterns.

I always found it easier to take the cube apart and rebuild with all the colors on the same sides. Also a hopeless case :0)

Oh, yeah, sweet memories... during schooltime we had competitions in solving the Rubik's Cube. You had to do it under minute to stay in competition. Finally it wasn't fun any more, just formulas and quick fingers... noting to think about. But it is a really great toy when you forget about all formulas and try to find solution by yourself. Much more interesting and fun than some computer games nowadays. :)
ETA: Keki, you should google for Rubik's Cube solutions. It's all about math. Easy, when you get some hints in the beginning.

I was always sooo hopeless at it!! i believe I managed only once! one time i got so frustrated i actually pulled off the stickers and reorganised it that way :sss (hopeless case!)
