Free Images

posted on 15th of july, 2009

Hi All,

I just wanted to se who of you used the tick-box 'use as free image' when uploading your images. I've got my first 'free' image online and it has a good few downloads.
So many it actually makes me somewhat cry inside as none of my other images got as close many downloads (or views) as the free one.

Of course, the reason that it is free, makes it easy to see why it has so many downloads. However, please let me know what your experience is with the Free Images.

Yep, the whole free image thing is tough. If it draws people to your portfolio, then it must be a good thing. BUT, it's hard looking at how many people are downloading it for . . . Nothing.

I'm with you. Today, I clicked that box for the first time and I'm unsure about it.

Absolutely agree! Free images increase chance to have more sales!

I always tick that box and one of them got selected as a free image. It has been viewed 2500+ times and downloaded 572 times. I think free images help draw traffic to the site, and to the contributors' portfolios, so hopefully help with some sales too, but there's no way to directly prove it.

I have one free image like you. It's had 585 views and been downloaded 217 times. My whole portfolio has only had 3 downloads, so I know what you mean about crying inside about it. I look at it as free advertising to the rest of my portfolio as there are links to some of my other photos from it. I've only got a small portfolio so any advertising should help me be seen. 585 views means someone must have had a peek at the rest. I hope :0) Cheers and chin up :0))
