First of all thanks to DT for giving me an opportunity to showcase my work and pay for it, then giving us training and always been there when I had any doubts.
Then to the buyers who found my work useful and used them in their projects.
Finally to the lovely DT community who was always there during bad and good times like a true friend and well wisher.
Well back to blog, Yes, its possible, today after reaching the magical landmark of 1000 USD in 1 year 9 months with just 170 images I believe everyone can do that. If only I was more active in uploading and building my portfolio I would have achieved this feat long back.
First keep uploading regularly, second think from buyers point of view before uploading, put yourself in buyers shoe and think, will this image be useful to you? if you are convinced then go ahead and upload. Be active in community ( I have almost same number of images in another 5 sites, but I hardly login to those sites, nor ever wrote a blog or commented on any blog nor ever read one, so this proves being active in blogs and forums really helps sales.) Being active in these community improves your knowledge plus promotes your portfolio.
Another suggestion is donate your images for free section, as this certainly brings people to your portfolio, there is no concrete proof, but it does. I know many disagree but I believe in this.
I know many contributors out there after few months of activity lose faith, I suggest don't there is lots of opportunity to make money as many companies are turning towards microstock.
Well there are lots of blogs in DT giving you various suggestions and ideas so I dont wanna make this blog a long one, just wanna assure you yes its possible to make money in DT, if I can make (as I'm not a professional photographer, its just an hobby), so do you.
Wishing everyone [only those who read this blog :-)))] to get more sales.
wow! Reaching US$1000 in 1year 9 month with only 170 images, MAGIC!! I had 1467 photos in 10 months just got less than US$200... But I learned more about microstock market in recent day. Thank you for a series of articles. I will read again and again. Thank you.
@Kidede, (Kathy Mattox) I know how you feel, you know two years ago, in my first 5 months around 175 images were refused and just 15 was approved, it takes time to understand the system and need, just hang on try hard and think out of box, surely you will succeed.
Enjoyed your blog. I am a newbie who is very discouraged right now. I am closely monitoring files by others that have been accepted and really wonder why similar files I submit are rejected. Sometimes the criticism is constructive but at times it seems unfair. If I correct files then they are wrong for some reason. If I don't correct them-same result. If nothing is found wrong with the file-then they criticize the keywords, etc. I am reading to better understand but this seems like a no win situation.
wow, congrats to you. i have still to earn my first 100 $, i still have 25 $ to go, lol. i will read and re-read this article so i can improve myself.. and when i do get my first 100, i will think of you. when i do get my first 1000 $ i will buy you a pint of beer !!!! ;)
Congratulations, it feels good that people actually pay for your work does it not?
I agree with you that many people lose heart after the first rejections.
Many times i welcomed newbies and never heard from them again, because they lose faith to fast.
Everything is possible as long as you put your heart into it.
