A Matter of Expectations!

posted on 12th of november, 2009

Hi all,

I Just thought of sharing you this as I was working on a new project & of course DT photos were involved...

Most of the times buyers imagine the use of the image before they download it! But the fact is that the photo doesn't always reach the final work for many reasons...

1. The final client didn't like it! "Differences make us stronger :))"
2. The photo needs much editing & it's easier to get another sometimes! "That doesn't make it ungood photo!"
3. Changing of plans... Like in magazines many times some articles end up unpublished! Or a change of the design that doesn't allow the image to fit well anymore!
4. The buyer has searched more carefully & found a nicer photo :)
This happens yes! Due to different keywords & searching methods!

If this happens to me I keep the image for a future use! So the expectations are always going on the right track, the same goes for the photographer, expecting his photo is already in use, but it will be later!

Well put, Mani.

I'm enjoying the DT ride so far: the neat feeling that some of my submissions are making it in; then a few sales, whether actually used or not. It'll be awesome to actually see my images in action--I know time will come for that, too!

Your insight from both sides, the photographer/illustrator and the buyer, is very helpful. Thanks!

Great blog Maen! That would explain why finding our images in use is so hard to do. Many of our downloaded images may never have been used. Hope your computer's okay now. Cheers Carol :0)

Yeah I do almost face this issue every day. Sometimes I get pissed off from the editor and sales team, but that's life. Most of the time we don't archive the images, its goes a waste. Now I have developed a open source codes and made a inhouse photo library where I can find unused images and use them.
