My first editorial!

posted on 21st of march, 2010

Well, finally I got my first editorial image uploaded on DT. Yeap, it is His Holiness the Pope. Benedict XVI.

It was quite a journey till this picture got uploaded. Firstly, I was incidentally at the place where the Pope was. Walking around Prague in September and I see lots of police (very unusual for Prague) on the streets, people going towards one particular church. So, I was wondering what is going on. I read somewhere that the Pope was coming to Prague, but I forgot when and where. Well, I asked a policeman and phoned a friend to ask if the Pope is here. And saw a Vatican flag.

So, I got my spot. And started waiting. 30 minutes. 60 minutes. At this stage the Popemobil comes driving through the street. Empty! The excitement is substituted with disappointment. 90 minutes. After almost two hours the Pope arrived. In a black limo. And he is to far away for a better shot. Nevertheless I took several shots of the Pope, the people... And then the Pope got in to the church for mass. Of course, everybody is waiting for the Pope to exit the church. I got my eyes on the Popemobil. Waiting for it to turn around and head back where it came from. But, I realized that it will just continue down the street as soon as the Pope comes out of the church. So, I frantically ran around some buildings in hope that I will get in time to the other side of the crowd. Fortune favored me then, so I got a good spot. And after several minutes the Pope passed by and I got this shot. I like it very much. I like the composition with the reflection of the buildings around and the Vatican flag and crowd in frame. It makes it complete for me.

Well, you might ask why uploaded in March and not September? The answer is that I wasn't very active in stock in September, and when I started uploading images on regular basis, I had problems with my computer. My hard disk got erased (or formatted or something like that). Around 40Gb of image files :( Well, I thought everything was lost, but some people gave me some software that supposedly will extract some data from the hard disk. And it did. Not everything, but it saved this picture.

So, that is the story of the Papal image. :)

I hope you like it

p.s. I still can't get over the images from the European Basketball Championship in Poland 2009. Those high res images are lost for good :(((((
