Secrets of Wildlife Photography

posted on 24th of march, 2010

Wildlife photography presents many challenges. Most folks think one must have $10,000 dollar lenses but at times, this is just not the case. This image was completed with a $200 lens that came with my digital camera.

Wildlife photography is about catching an interesting photo of an animal or bird in pleasing light. Most wildlife photos are taken in the early morning or late afternoon light, what is termed the golden hours.

I like many of my photos to show implied action. Some times this is as simple as a raised foot; other times it is catching the bird or animal at the peak of action.

So what is the big secret of wildlife photography? Go where the animals or birds are located and photography them in early morning or late afternoon light. Remember, you do not need to go to Africa to find animals or birds; they are at the park, local zoo, your backyard, etc.

I am luck enough to live in Africa where there are loads of wild animals, this does not mean I get great images though :0)
