Thoughts upon reaching 1000 images on line.

posted on 27th of november, 2010

Three weeks ago I received my Dreamstime check for $1000 but was 50 images short of 1000 so thinking about it I decided to invest in hiring a model. I wanted to capture images of the quality of these four which I envy.

So I visited a web site of a local studio and found the e-mail address of a well experienced model....... she had a lot more experience than I required !! I bought in flowers and a red umbrella and couldn't wait for the appointed day. I even bought high power cool lights and studio umbrellas. Unfortunately the model had an accident and went into hospital, sad for her, and disappointment for me.

However improvise is a favourite word of mine so I got a male colleague to pose for a few images in my ' studio '.

The working from home image is in reality working at my desk.
So I began thinking how to manage without a paid model and recalled that in principle one can become one's own model. Some contributors here have done it.
But its not so easy even with a tripod and time delay of 10 seconds.
You have to focus just where your going to sit and of course on the eyes......... but 9 times out of 10 you get it wrong. Add to that rushing to be in position and relaxed in 10 seconds and you'll understand the difficulty.
So my next stop was a trip to the local Jessops Camera shop where I bought a radio remote control.
The beauty of it is that when you half press the remote button the camera focuses and you can make sure your eyes are along the camera's ( lens) central axis. Here are three of my attempts using the remote.

So now I was heading for 1000 images but these two images entitled 'miss you ' and ' love you ' were rejected. I mention this because after a message to the Editor they were approved and now in the data base.
If you have something not criticized technically a kindly request to the Editorial team may bring a favorable result. If I have said anything at all useful please kindly press the useful button ! Good shooting everybody.

William I offered £100 for a whole day and hoped to end up with at least 50 usable images. I offered her the train fare as well. David.
