I'm Going to the Superbowl

posted on 30th of january, 2011

My blogs lately have been a bit serious for the most part, I think it's time for one that is a little more down to earth.

While most of the world does not follow American football, virtually the entire planet knows about the Superbowl. Here in America, it's a dream for many to go to the Superbowl, especially if the team you root for will be playing. As someone who lives in Wisconsin, it is a given that you're a Green Bay Packers fan upon birth. :-) Well, the dream has come true for me. I have tickets for Superbowl XLV and will be going to Dallas, TX to watch the Packers who will hopefully prevail over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

As many of you kow, finding a way into the Superbowl is difficult to do unless you're willing to spend an ungodly aqmount of money. I know some of you will be curious regarding the cost, so here is how I'm getting there:

To begin with, I have season tickets with the Packers. Every year the Packers get into the playoffs, there is a lottery for season ticket accounts. If your name is selected, you will get tickets to the Superbowl if the Packers make it that far. I've been selected in the past but it was during years where the Packers didn't make it. The odds are against you; being picked in the lottery is rare, and it's even more rare for your team to make it to the Superbowl. The planets have to align in order to have the opportunity for seats in the Superbowl.

Thank goodness for aligning planets!

Face value of the tickets is $800 each. Far from cheap but a bargain compared to the secondary markets. The next problem is transportation and lodging. Prices are outrageous for these options, too, which is why Superbowl packages offered by the travel agents are so expensive. I'm going with my brother and we considered driving to Dallas but that requires several days of travel and renting a vehicle, plus gas. Fortunately, I had been saving my frequent flyer miles; I cashed them in so we are flying to Dallas for free. I was able to reserve a motel room for a "decent" price, four nights for about $500. All in all, it's costing us $1100 each though we will have expenses for food, transportation, and souvenirs. Regardless, I don't think the entire trip will cost more than $1500 each.

It should be an exciting trip and one of those lifetime experiences you check off on your bucket list. And hopefully too, I will be able to come back with lots of stock and editorial images!

Thanks for reading, and go Packers! :-)

Hey, your team held on to win, congrads. Hopefully, you did not have one of the seats written about in the paper that were unavailable or broken.

We did have seats that were added for the event but they weren't too bad. Some of the seats couldn't see the scoreboard. Can you imagine going the bother and cost of going and having a ticket but finding out you don't have a seat? Yikes!

What a good time! :-)

Well, congrads Wisconsonart, very happy for you. Get plenty of images of yourself like you have in your port. images of you in front of stadium, image of you cheering with field in background, image of you with scoreboard, etc. Seriously, have a blast.

You are envied by a lot of people here in Wisconsin. My long time friend and I have a photo shoot planned that weekend and we will be together to watch it in Eau Claire. Can't get much better than that!

That`s great! I`m not into American football ( even thought I lived for 2 years in Chicago :P) but I guess the Superbowl it`s like a Champions League Final in Football ( the real one :P) , only on a smaller scale :P
No offense, I`m joking! Have fun over there and bring us great pictures! :)
