The more I get into this game the more I become convinced that editorial images are where my future is. Not for the money of course. Commercial is certainly going to provide a much greater RPI that most Editorial portfolios. I have to emphasise "most", as there are a few editorial photographers who I am sure earn a considerable income from their ports.
I'd like the views of others but IMO, interesting subjects, interesting angles, interesting locations, focus on the part rather than the whole, in fact anything that takes you away from the snapshot-type viewpoint.
I agree with you about Editorial. There is something special about capturing real life as it happens and preserving it for future generations. I love looking at old photographs and all the things which we remove for commercial images (shop signs, billboards etc) are what make them interesting. Regards, David.
Editorial pictures are always gonna sell well, even though for a smaller amount of money. I have some editorial pictures in my portfolio and they sell great. Hope you`ll do ok with your choice! Good luck!
The editorials I'm planning to shoot over the next several months will include lots of people in busy tourist hot spots like Times Square in NYC. I like the freedom of shooting without the worry of model releases and capturing life as it happens. Good luck with your venture :-)
I think that there is a market as well. In terms of sale, it is longer. I prefer the Editorial than the RF because it is about life/reality comparing to to virtual reality create from scratch. Good luck for sales to come!
There is a market for editorials, depending on content and where the action or event happens. In fact, most of my best sellers are editorial. There is a way to get blurry or ghostly movement so the faces are not recognisable. Use long exposure, for eg. 1/30 seconds. Good luck with your sale :)
Thanks guys. You have both got it. Just keep true to what you want to record. Hopefully sales will follow.
To Ebamo. Why not try a few high shots of high-risers, which will get you in the mode, and simply lower your camera. I've not had anybody complain to their appearing in a street scene. They're just part of the scene?
