Black and white photos

posted on 17th of august, 2011

DT has just accepted my first B&W photo. I am very curious how it will manage here. Do you have any experience regarding B&W pictures? Are the buyers interested in that kind of photography?
Again, the photo was taken in India, New Delhi:)

Just n case, I also uploaded the same picture, but in color:

I have 2 B&W images because they look like the Ansel Adams type of photo, and this one has sell quite well. Is a good idea to have certain images in B&W.

I only use B&W when coma can not be removed in the picture due to exceptional bad lighting/lens combination (mostly low DoF lens/ very large lensopening in combination with harsh sunlight)

Never submitted B&W myself,

THX for the idea

I haven't tried black and white much except for the one image "Supernatural Scary face" and it hasn't sold yet. Maybe it will for Halloween! I have seen B&W images on here though that have sold very well. Maybe it's subject matter, who knows? Please let us know if your image sells!

Personally (as a buyer and graphic designer) I would always go for the color version if it would be available. I buy very regularly (780 downloads now) an never bought black and white as far as I can remember. If I wanted to use it in b&w I could do it myself and if my client would decide to have a color version of a concept I gave him in b&w or one color then I would have to buy another 2nd best picture. But that is my personal opinion as a buyer.

But having said that, I like the black and white version of this picture more then the color version! I can imagine that some buyers can not look through that and might decide to buy this version. I also like the dark edges very much!

Good luck with your sales! :)

I also consider B&W photos more spectacular. I ma happy you share my opinion:)

So far I only uploaded one black and white landscape. No takers yet. My personal preference has always been black and white. Whether there will be a sale or not depends on the buyers - what are they looking for and how that image will be used in what medium. Best of luck for your portfolio :)
