Traditional Christmas illustrations

posted on 17th of november, 2012

Well, Christmas is coming and for an illustrator this is a very busy period. Christmas is at the same time inspiring and tiring, the reign of magical images and the pile of things already seen.
Time to find something different.
This time I've decided to take a step back to go forward. So I have taken watercolors out from the drawer. Yes, REAL brushes and TRADITIONAL watercolors. Not digital but old, retro, vintage paintings.
Let's see how it goes and... M E R R Y C H R I S T M A S !

thank you. I'm doing a research on Christmas symbols to do my new illustrations, and it's very interesting. For example, the traditional color of Christmas is green, the color of new life and rebirthing, NOT red (the color of Coke santa claus!). I will do new illustrations based on old ancient symbols. I like them very much.

Great work!
Do you clean background in Photoshop?
Posted by Korat_cn on November 19, 2012
Yes, they are scanned. Sometime I make some adjustments in Photoshop, but just little thing: some light or color balance. I'm not able to write, I prefer to work for hire, illustrating books for children written by others.

I just check your portfolio. You are really very good! You are very creative. I read books to my children very often and always appreciate good illustrations. You should write and illustrate your own books!!!

Nice! You mean you scanned them after? You are a good artist.
