Newbie To Stock Photography

posted on 5th of february, 2013

So where to start, been here for a few years now and looking to expand my stock porfiolio. I have been good at photography for a while but trying to find what stock photos are poplular is a tricky challenege.
Over the course of this blog I plan to expand my portfolio, gain more of an understanding of stock photos and of course achieve more sales.
I welcome any comments along the way.

So happy blogging hopefully.

Many thanks for that Celiaak. Comments noted and planning to get a lot more photos on there now.
Thanks for the bit about the image link too, wondered what the problem was there.

Watchi this space for more photos.

I like your portfolio. You just need to grow it more.
To make the images on your comments appear, remove the L form the [ imgl ] xxxxxxxx [ /imgl ] like this: [img ] xxxxxxxxx [ /img]. This will make your images appear on comments (Do not add the spaces, I have done it to avoid conflict).

Sold this one today, is this more the sort of stock photo than landscapes and that sort of thing?

Is it worth trying to focus on a certain category of stock photos each time i go out shooting or just find things of interest when i do. At the moment i have started trying to focus on certain items of each time i go out on a shoot.

I bought some books by Scott Kelby which are well worth a read too, just finished his digital photography book and his book on CS5.
Worth a look if you get a chance - http://scottkelby.com/

Think in concepts. A good picture must convey a concept. That makes it more sought and bought. Congratulations for your portfolio, and keep shooting :-)

Thanks, that is a good point. At the moment i do try and take a picture then try and slot it into the stock photo without thinking of a specific subject first and researching it.

Good portfolio so far. My advice would be before you shoot your subject, have a look on the site to see what is already here and then think of new concepts.
I wish you good luck for the future.
