posted on 6th of may, 2014

Here's an Article on Petapixel I came across today.
Poachers use geotagged photos to get to their preys, often endangered species!

Thank you for sharing the article. It is so easy to be unaware of how innocent actions can be twisted to evil purpose.

Feeling that one can do nothing is the worst... Things are going backwards in terms of hunting (canned hunting, poaching, hunting safaris, ...), environment destruction, fur industry, etc. Let alone wars everywhere!

I doubt we can do much against it, even as we (Dreamstimers) stop geotagging. There are simply too many sources (geotagged images) on the internet, new images coming each day. Some photogs don't even realize their camera is in constant geo-on mode (I see that everyday while reviewing geotagged studio images). The prospect not optimistic imho.

Awful!!! Thank you Eliane!

Saw on the news some jerks are cutting into redwood trees to get the valuable burls. Disgusting greed fueled by drug abuse the story implied.

Very well observed Eliane, I always make a slight "mistake", if I need to be cautious when geotagging.

Now I understand: in some cases geotaging can carry harm to wildlife. Thank you for sharing

Wow. This is so sad. I have no words. Sad and wrong.

In fact, a normal mind would never even think about it... How sad...

Hard to find the right words on this. Greed and evil is enough describing...
Posted by Elianehaykal on May 06, 2014
Neither did I! The greed for money is unbelievable... Did you read the bit about poachers purposely sending people on safaris to take pics which they then use to track Rhinos?! That's evil.
Posted by Chanevy on May 06, 2014
Eliane, that is incredibly nasty.
Posted by Chanevy on May 06, 2014
Thank you for sharing. I never would have thought of that!
