Marsala - Pantone color of the year 2015

posted on 5th of february, 2015

Last year when someone would say Marsala you'd instantly think Tiramisu, the delicious Italian layered cake flavoured with the sweet fortified wine obtained from grapes grown on the sun-kissed slopes surrounding the town with the same name in Sicily and aged in wooden caskets.

This year Marsala has been chosen by Pantone as the color of 2015. It is a deep, rich, earthy, warm color representative of both brown and red with a hint of ocher, a direct reference to seduction and affection, an organic color that can stir emotions.

What is Marsala, you may ask yourselves:

* Marsala is the color of a summer sunset, when the scorching heat gives way to the palm swaying breeze in the city of angels, Los Angeles

* Marsala is the color of that plate you put your breakfast on...

Live the New York experience ... with a twist

posted on 18th of february, 2015

You're about to visit what is widely considered the Greatest City on Earth, The City That Never Sleeps, The Big Apple, The Capital of the World, The City of Dreams or simply, THE CITY, New York, and all you can think about is: how am I going to experience all of it, where do I go first and where are the hidden gems?
Luckily we have an alternative to the usual New York tours you'll find in travel magazines during your flight so let's get into it and walk you through the city.

The High Line

When you approach the High Line in the Chelsea neighborhood on the lower west side of Manhattan, what you see first is the kind of thing urban parks were created to get away from—a harsh, heavy, black steel structure supporting an elevated rail line that once brought freight cars right into factories and warehouses...

Chukchi People in the Soviet Era

posted on 20th of february, 2015

Over the long years of judging images here at Dreamstime I have come across some really amazing work.
Stock photography has been put down many times for being cheesy and broken from reality and even goofy at times but I'd beg to differ.

The story I am about to tell today is inspired by a series of editorial images from one of our contributors taken back in the days when digital photography was a distant SciFi dream and film imagery was king.

These images range from 1979 to 1985 and depict the ways and lives of indigenous people living in the tundra of the Chukotka peninsula at the outskirts of Chukchi Sea and the Bering Sea region of the Arctic Ocean, a place you may call The End of The World.

“The way you treat your dog in this life determines your place...

17 ways to enjoy tea around the world

posted on 24th of february, 2015

I am a tea drinker, anyone here at the office will confirm that for you. I have this huge mug that is always filled with brewed teas from all over the world.
If you think tea is a beverage you obtain from dunking a tea bag in hot water than you must read on, and if you know your tea than you definitely must read on.

We'll start our journey in Japan maybe the most famous tea drinking country out there. Their tea ceremony has books dedicated to it, it features in movies and is a conversation piece. There are courses you can take to learn it and it can take a lifetime to perfect the Way of Tea.
But Matcha, the ceremonial Japanese tea, can be enjoyed in everyday life without worrying too much about etiquette. All you have to do is boil water, let it cool to 70°C and pour...

About me

Senior Editor/Admin and Social Media Wizard at Dreamstime. I have enjoyed photography ever since my father first introduced me in the world of arts as a child. Although I have not chosen a career as a photographer I happened to come across a job here, at your favorite microstock site, in 2005. That is when things took a 180 degrees turn and photography took its well deserved place in my life. I have seen hundreds if not thousands of photographers grow and mature into their portfolios and that is an experience I would never trade. I would encourage anyone to follow their hearts and read a l... [Read more]
