Happy New Year everyone!
Before we embark on what we hope to be an exciting 2017 journey, it is customary to take a look back at 2016 and draw some conclusions. A lot of things happened here on Dreamstime last year but the stats we're all curious about are the the same as always: which images sold best and what did people shop for. What were the trends for stock shoppers?
To get a more general view, we've added the top sellers for all three categories of files we sold (photos, illustrations, videos) as well as the top searches for the last months.
People love holidays and Christmas is probably the favorite seasonal holiday for everyone. We've had Xmas on our top seller list since like forever so a good Christmas photo will always sell well. Business is back in business although my feeling is that it has never left...the business. And last but not least buyers do love simple clean backgrounds, with copy space. Take the wood texture background for example. It's been among our best sellers for two years in a row. If there is something new worth mentioning for photos is that new angles and the very-much-in-trend 'view from above' have made the sale difference for images on popular topics. Genuine and naturalness are other words that come to my mind when looking at this year's best sold photos.
The illustration category reserves very few surprises. You've seen similar images on top seller lists the past years as well. Futuristic illustrations and vintage icons take the medals again and simplicity is the word of the day. The more isolated, the better. You'll see what I mean when you check top searches. Best sold videos are related to things we're concerned about such as the planet, the future, the environment and of course, business.
So follow stock trends, stay informed on what's going on nowadays, place your bet on holidays, be original and maybe you'll be the next best seller. And if you're curious how things have evolved, feel free to check out my previous posts on best sellers from 2015, 2014, 2012 and 2010
